About
John Farrell is an Irish designer and maker. He started Esker Design in 2020, with the aim of producing work that is unique, functional, and opens a conversation in the space the work inhabits. John originally completed an apprenticeship in cabinetry and wood machinery, later going on to renowned furniture college GMIT Letterfrack where he graduated with a BSc degree in furniture design and manufacture, also receiving maker of the year.
Working independently from his Irish based studio, John collaborates closely with clients to develop and realise their unique vision. The studio works on speculative pieces and commissioned works that are exclusively made to order.
“At the heart of all my work, the aim is to create considered and sculptural pieces that express the inherent beauty and unique qualities of wood. By deepening my own understanding of the material I continue to explore the boundaries of art, craft, and functionality.”
